Approach
If you're reading this, I'm going to assume that you've gotten stuck in your life in some way. I help you understand the patterns that led to this point, so we can work together to find a new route towards a better future.
I support people with a variety of mental health presentations, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). My practice is not just limited to those with a diagnosable mental health condition; if you are struggling with the way you think, feel or act, psychotherapy may be the way forward for you.
I take an integrative approach, tailoring evidence-based theories to meet the needs of the person sat in front of me. I am trained in a wide variety of approaches, including:
- Eye Movement Desensitisation and Re-processing therapy (EMDR)
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Based Therapy (ACT)
- Psychodynamic theory
- Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
I understand that there can be a lot of acronyms when you try and find a suitable therapist, so I take time during our first few sessions to really explain what the model is, why I believe it will be helpful and how we will tailor it for your unique circumstances.
Ethos
Understandably, it can be anxiety provoking when embarking on a therapeutic journey. We are often taught to 'keep a lid on things', possibly through fear that we cannot tolerate what we may find inside.
I encourage my clients to find the joy in self-discovery, even when inevitably faced with parts that we may not like. It is this authentic relationship with Self that I believe is so important in allowing you to lead a fulfilling life. For this reason, I highlight the importance of creating a safe, trusting and confidential space for my clients.
I take great pleasure in watching my clients develop their understanding, beginning to work with rather than against themselves. My guiding values center around curiosity, connection and direction.
Qualifications and Experience
I have experience working with a wide range of people in a variety of settings including the National Health Service (NHS), charity organisations and private companies. I have supported young people, families, couples, adults and older adults with both short and long term goals. Utilising a range of psychometric tests, I have conducted specialist assessments for learning needs, gender identity and general mental health. I am the Clinical Director for a holistic health retreat in the peak district, a centre which integrates mind, body and spirit.
My background enables me to support people across the mental health spectrums, but I have a particular interest in supporting people with matters relating to identity, trauma and anxiety. I have engaged in additional post qualification training in these areas and continue to expand my understanding through regular continued professional development.
I have experience working in NHS gender clinics for both young people and adults. I now offer psychological therapy for those across gender spectrums and maintain my specialism through continued professional development and supervision with the Northern Gender Network. I am passionate about helping people connect with and express their authentic Self, helping you to find a sense of personal fulfilment.
